Skin is your body’s first defense. It’s important to keep it healthy with lotions and sunscreen! Here are some tips when skin isn’t so happy.
-
Ice, essential oils, over the counter creams (Benadryl or Cortisone 10).
-
This happens when the body tries to cool off by sending blood closer to the skin.
-
Saliva isn’t just water - it has some acids and enzymes, and can be very irritating to skin. New foods, cold dry air, and sweat can be irritating too. If your baby has a rash, clean and dry the skin gently, then apply pure petroleum jelly. You can apply this before a meal, before a walk, or after a nap.
-
A person might get an allergy rash because they touched something or ate something they are allergic to.
-
This means inflammation of the skin. It can happen because of irritation, or because the skin cannot protect itself very well.
-
Smells and colors are fun but how do we get them into our detergents, lotions, and air fresheners? Usually with alcohols and other things that irritate the skin. If your child’s skin is angry, avoid smells and colors. Use lotions or emollients (thick and greasy things) to protect the skin and help it heal. Try 100% petroleum jelly 5-6 times a day!
